Crystal Stewart Photography Interview
Hey everyone, thank you for checking our blog.
The interview category is a new part of our blog, where we will be contacting and interviewing one photographer every week. This week we have the pleasure to interview Ms. Stewart, a photographer from New York City, and we are sharing with you her photography journey.
Let’s get started ..
Q: How did you discover your passion for photography?
A: When my daughter turned 1 and started moving a lot more I realized that my iPhone just won’t shoot fast enough to catch her. I got my first DSLR and was completely lost. I learned a bit here and there but my passion flourished when I got my Sony mirror less camera. The compact size and power of the camera really took my work to a new level!
Q: When did you know Photography would be your career of choice?
A: I mostly took pictures of my daughter. People would complement me furiously. When I started to work with others to do portraits I knew this was something I wanted to do full time.
Q: What type of photography did you choose? (wedding, portrait, new born, families, events, etc…)?
A: I do portraits. Family portraits, couples, kids, engagements, blogger photos. I love capturing genuine emotion. Stiff posed photos are so antiquated to me. I love when my subjects are interacting with each other or in motion.
Q: How do u handle a picky client ?
A: Generally my clients want these natural photos so they are not super picky. Recently I had a client that was very specific. She wanted to be led but she also wanted input. I made sure to engage her by showing her the photos I’ve taken every few poses. We worked together to get photos that we both loved!
Q: What is your worst nightmare in your photography career?
A: MY SD CARD OR HARDDRIVE FAILING. I would be crushed if I lost all of someone’s beautiful memories before I delivered them. I would be even more crushed if I lost my daughters entire life’s worth of images.
Q: What is your favorite photograph that you have ever taken? And you would like to share with us
A: I’ve had so many! But I think my favorite right now is on the home page of my website. It’s my daughter jumping in the park. Her hair has consumed her head and the pure happiness makes my heart full!
Q: Which photographers influenced you, and how did they influence your thinking, photographing, and career path?
A: I follow a lot of YouTube photographers. I’m completely obsessed with Jordan Taylor Wright (taylor cut films), Manny Ortiz, and Jessica Kobeissi. I’ve learned so much from these photographers. Jordan taught me what emotion can do in a photograph. How to connect people to the feeling behind what you’re taking. Manny Ortiz taught me more technical aspects and Jessica creativity (all three are creative in different ways). I think in terms of career they all showed me the power of persistence!
Q: What are your favorite books ?
A: You are a Badass 🙂 read it !!!
Thank you Ms. Stewart for such a lovely interview, we would like to wish you good luck in your business and hope to see you soon 🙂
